Registration is closed

Pour cette conférence, le CINQ a le plaisir d'accueillir Mme Emily Coffey. Mme Coffey est professeure adjointe au département de psychologie de l'Université Concordia.

Titre de la conférence : Sound and the sleeping brain

Résumé :

Sound can be used to non-invasively influence brain function. A promising new technique uses closed-loop stimulation to deliver short sounds at specific phases of ongoing brain oscillations. During sleep, this procedure appears to be able to stimulate processes of memory consolidation, resulting in greater post-sleep task improvement - but how, exactly, and on which tasks? What are the mechanisms by which sound can stimulate neuroplasticity, and what are its limits? In this talk, I will briefly review the memory consolidation functions of sleep and present our recent work investigating whole-brain dynamics during sleep (EEG-MEG). I will also present some preliminary data from ongoing projects stimulating the brain with sound during sleep, a new open-source tool we are developing for mobile measurements and stimulation, and our future directions.
