One of the contributions of functional neuroimaging to the study of cognition is to show the importance of dynamic brain activity, both in terms of functional connectivity and variability, to performance on a variety of cognitive tasks.  In this talk, Dr Grady will present evidence that older adults have weaker functional connections within brain networks but stronger connections between networks compared to young adults, and discuss how this influences memory ability.  Recent work on age differences in variability of brain activity and functional connectivity also will be discussed.
